![]() With thousands of frets pulled, pressed, hammered and polished, we have the experience to meet your needs. We like to joke that we have refretted everything but an upright bass, but in all honesty, it is not far from the truth. We've pulled new frets from bad necks, leveled frets on new necks, refretted two and three generation vintage instruments and even "un-fretted" a couple of bass necks. If your instruments have frets, we have got it covered! |

JUSTFRETS.COM was founded by Luthier, Denny Kopp, as a quest to develop a network of "True Fretwork Professionals", and to combine all that experience into a proven accurate and efficient fretting process. The JUSTFRETS.COM process is an amalgamation of many different tried and true fretting techniques. The heart of this process is in the "hardening"' of the fretwire itself! Our fret jobs really do last longer and play smoother for it than the average original factory frets. That claim is steeped in the science and experience of the JUSTFRETS.COM fret job with half the process being the same as it has been for hundreds of years and the other half developed in modern times. The result being a financially efficient way to produce consistently great results and with benefits that you will notice instantly, in both tone and value!!!

![]() A word on fretwire and hardness.JUSTFRETS.COM uses 18% Nickel/Silver Fretwire. 18% Nickel Silver is actually a Copper alloy. It is made up of 18% Nickel, 17% Zinc and 65% Copper. This metallurgical formula is the balance of perfection for the intended use of the fretwire. If you have ever noticed the little "wear bands" on your strings when they start to get old, then you can fully understand the balancing of this alloy. ("Wear bands" are the little shiny rings that strings achieve as a result of being pressed into the frets over time). If these percentages were shifted to yield a 'harder' wire, the result would be longer wearing but would corrode very quickly and therefore lose the smooth bending and sliding action necessary for modern playing styles. Conversely, if the mix were changed to yield a wire that was softer, the shine and polish would be improved, but the wire would wear out very quickly. This is why justfrets.com does not use stainless steel fretwire. It may be longer wearing, but it actually prematurely wears out your strings and the hardness also gives the instrument an 'unnatural' tone. The only way to improve upon the 18% alloy is to harden the wire itself and that is exactly what we do at JUSTFRETS.COM!
